CNN retracts estimated Bush victory as Florida margin remains razor-thin By Ian Christopher McCaleb CNN.com Writer November 8, 2000 Web posted at: 4:10 a.m. EST (0910 GMT) (CNN) -- CNN retracted its estimate early Wednesday that Texas Gov. George W. Bush had won the presidency, after Florida state officials annnounced a recount there that holds the presidency in the balance. "This race is simply too close to call," Bill Daley, chairman of Vice President Al Gore's Democratic campaign, told a cheering crowd early this morning in Nashville. "Until this is resolved, the campaign continues." Gore backed away from a planned presidential election concession speech early today as Florida state officials and media organizations examined vote count discrepancies in a state that holds the electoral votes needed to name the next president. CNN estimates Gore's Republican rival, Texas Gov. George W. Bush, won the presidency early today by taking Florida, but some estimates put the state vote at this hour within less than 2,000 votes of more than 5 million cast statewide. State law requires a recount when the final vote margin is less than one-half of one percent. The winner of Florida will have the electoral votes necessary to become the next president of the United States.

BUSH WINS.

November 8, 2000 Web posted at: 2:33 a.m. EST (0733 GMT) (CNN) -- George W. Bush will be the next president of the United States, CNN estimates, after he narrowly won a majority of the vote in the Electoral College following a long night of close election returns. Bush's victory was sealed with a win in Florida, by CNN estimates, which catapulted him over the required 270-vote electoral margin of victory after the state stayed in play for much of the night. The last states to fall into the 'win' category for either candidate included Iowa, Arkansas, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado for Bush, according to CNN estimates, while Gore won in Washington.

Thoughts

Today tom spotted a ten dollar bill of the cliff near my dorm. we both chased it, but he actually jumped in the pile of leaves below. he fell, cigarette in hand, but still retreived his ten dollars, which made him a happy man. i was kinda annoyed today when i had my comp lab and couldnt remember how to do the factorials, because i had finished the lab the night before. it was just something i wanted to get done with and finish, but because i couldnt do it, i have to go back tomorrow and finish it. alright.
